Ramadan 2010

Ramadan is the most significant annual, communal religious practice of Islam. Its timing (like that of Easter and Vesakha) is calculated astronomically. It involves the Islamic lunar calendar and the sighting of a waxing crescent moon followed by a new moon, so it varies from one location to another. This year, it will start about Aug. 11 and end about Sept. 10. It's a time of focused prayer, fasting and charitable deeds for the common good. Want to know more about Ramadan and support this mind-body-spirit holistic effort in some way with your own spiritual practice? Check out the links on this page.  http://www.holidays.net/ramadan/

What can we gain by sailing to the moon if we are not able to cross the abyss that separates us from ourselves? This is the most important of all voyages of discovery, and without it, all the rest are not only useless, but disastrous.  ~Thomas Merton

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field.  I'll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk about. Ideas, language, even the phrase each other doesn't make any sense.  ~Jelaluddin Rumi
