Spiritual Guidance

Spiritual Direction- Guidance - Companioning - Exploration

BE AWARE - of God’s presence right here and now
BE AWAKE - to what’s happening in and around you
BE ALIVE - to opportunities life offers you every day
The initiative is always yours to meet once or regularly to explore how the Divine is present and active in your life and through you and how you respond to that.

Seeking DIRECTION, we allow Spirit to direct us both.  I use a non-directive style: listening to what you share and how Spirit invites you: asking questions, sharing what I notice, echoing what you say so you can "hear" your self, holding an open space.  But you choose what to do; you take the next step.

Spiritual GUIDANCE is a process of being led toward your real self, true to the best of who you are.  It is realizing the gifts you have and can activate for good.
It is becoming more available and open to the call of the Divine as you hear it in everyday life on the life-long journey of be-ing and be-coming who you are.

A COMPANION "eats bread with you," in other words, shares the ordinary stuff of daily life; walking with you in your life-journey, sharing sadness or a good laugh and reminding you that you do not travel alone.  As a "spiritual companion," I meet with an individual and at other times with a group, maybe a family trying to come to a decision, or a church or business considering whether their ways and means are compassionate, respectful and of service to others.

EXPLORATION happens when you sense it's time for a change in your life and want to think through your options out loud with someone. You may welcome a fresh perspective or an objective opinion or someone who will ask questions you don't think of or ones you’re avoiding and don't even recognize.  Exploration means you may be ready, willing and able to take a new step, to try something you haven't done before or make a change you hope is for the better.  The one exploring with you may continue to meet with you through the process leading to your decision and maybe a couple times after, so you can look at "how it's going."  Exploration is like discernment, a process of making a wise decision and acting on it.  Exploring "new territory" may confirm that you are just where you fit, doing just what’s best for you.  It can confirm your present path instead of suggesting a new one.  And that can be the biggest surprise of all.

Whatever name we give it, this spiritual work is not psychotherapy, counseling or life-coaching.  I don’t diagnose or try to "fix" problems.  We focus on God, spiritual energy and discernment.  If you need to understand your behavior or want advice around a life problem, you need to consider a therapist or counselor.

FEES     If you want to give spiritual direction a try, contact me for an introductory session.  Usually there is no fee for this first opportunity to explore the possibility together.  My usual fee is on a sliding scale of $35 - $50 for a one-hour session.

INTERFAITH Spiritual Direction recognizes the unity of spiritual experience underlying the diversity of religious expressions of faith-wisdom traditions and spiritual practices.  This exploration welcomes a wide variety of religious traditions as well as those who come to spirituality outside the personal experience of a “church” background or membership.

In today’s global society and Earth’s ecological state, we can decide and discover how to respect our differences as assets, not view them with suspicion.  We can learn to cooperate for the common good and not just stay on our own side of the street and hope “others” do the same.  We can create the future together by how we daily choose to live HERE and NOW.  We can connect what we believe with how we live.  We can explore our interfaith world not in theory, but with people!
